Happy Happy Bonfire Night!

I’m sure you will get to see fireworks wherever you are today especially as it was Diwali yesterday too. Whatever you do, stay warm and safe.

I feel like I have been jinxed with ill health in my kids lately. My poor daughter was bitten by an insect on her forehead on Sunday evening when we were enjoying Halloween.

Unfortunately it caused periorbital cellulitis which meant her left eye was swollen shut which meant a hospital trip for us. We were seen relatively quickly in the Emergency Eye Treatment Centre and prescribed strong antibiotics and all was well in the end.

It was all a bit scary until we knew the risk of developing orbital cellulitis (a medical emergency) was quashed and after a few days the swelling reduced to almost nothing.

Visited A&E

Day 1 of antibiotics

Day 2 of antibiotics

We have seen a fair few A&E visits over the years and as much as I am filled with dread and anxiety when we have to go, we usually have time to pack a back to keep us entertained during the long wait (unless your whisked to A&E via ambulance, which I was a few years ago!).

On this occasion we had a bit of time to get ready; packed an ipad with TV shows downloaded on it plus headphones for my daughter; a bag of crochet for me; a phone charger and a big bottle of water as hospitals can be so hot.

By the time we got home, I was mentally drained from the worry and needed something to help me chill out and of course, my go therapy was crochet.

I felt my tension headache easing as I counted, “1, 2, 3, 4, together, together, 1, 2, 3, 5, increase, increase.” over and over until the stress of the day had subsided and I felt calm.

I’ve really noticed how effective my crochet has been at focusing my mind away from anxious thoughts lately. I’m such a busy body that I find it hard to do nothing, so crochet gives me the right level of relaxation whilst being quietly busy in a non-stressful way.

One of my favourite crochet idols is Lyndsey Newns. She has a beautiful crochet business called Lottie and Albert and she has a new book out this week.

I am desperate to get my hands on a copy and will be adding it to my Christmas list.

Go and give her a follow on instagram @Lottieandalbert and if you want to grab yourself a copy of her book use this link:
